SEEING DEER

hand-drawn fascimile reproduction (and fanzine excerpt), 2024
cut paper, graphite, risograph reproductions

We do not get to choose what moves us.

When my own life lacks transparency to me, The Deer Sayers surfaces as a safe and reliable mystery. First shared with me by librarian Mo Dawley, the whole book is just three amateur photographs and three sentences of text. A coin envelope is affixed to the outside of the back cover, and a magnifying glass is inside.

Thank you to Jill Chisnell for recovering The Deer Sayers (1978) from the Carnegie Mellon University library annex.
