SNAKE EYES

11x14 fiber prints, silver gelatin process, 2018
6x7 negative contact prints

Snake eyes; a roll of two ones with a pair of dice. In cards, snake eyes is a derogatory term: the worst possible result, a complete lack of success.

Following in the traditions of stereoscopic photography, diptych image pairs, and contact sheets, I make my photographs monogamous to another.

The scale of these images is oppressive. Presented with a loupe for close obsevation, viewers are made into forensic observers. The photographs are evidence, but evidence of what? We think we are being presented with something. Meaning emerges out of their intimate networks. Failures in storytelling make the viewer think, “it’s my fault.” Synchronicity has value whether or not it means anything.
